Yin Workshop

The word ‘Yin’ translates as passive, dull, slow and restful. It co-exists with ‘Yang’, which translates into vibrant, alert and moving.

We spend a lot of our time in an active,‘yang’ state, leading fast-paced, demanding and sometimes stressful lives. Sometimes, we become so busy and used to tension that we don’t realise we have it anymore.

Yin yoga works on releasing deep tension held in our tissues through compression and release. This practice is comprised of floor-based postures that are held for several minutes to slowly and gently open our tight and soft spots. I believe Yin is the most effective ways to improve mobility and flexibility in our bodies and with studies now showing that our experiences and emotions are being archived in our tissues, we may also be improving our general wellbeing.

Yin is derived from Chinese Medicine, which looks to balance not only our physical body but also our energetic, emotional and intellectual body as a whole. Each position stimulates specific energy pathways, which, when blocked can cause different aliments represented in our form. Each energy channel is linked to an organ in the body and has it’s own route. For example, the Kidney energy channel is linked to the Kidney organ and is stimulated when we apply stress to the inner thighs. When the Kidney energy is blocked we can suffer from lower back pain, feel fear, depression or dehydration. When we stimulate this energy we are

This practice invites you to self-reflect and release, to find equanimity in the everyday instead of being on the roller coaster of fluctuating thoughts and physical stresses.

This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to improve flexibility, find space in their daily life or interested in the energetic and physical forms.

All levels and abilities welcome.

Chakra Workshop

Chakra Workshop

In Yoga tradition, the human body has seven main energy centres called chakras, located along the spine.

The chakras are the most precious link we have to our energetic body and each chakra has it’s own attributes manifesting in our lives. The chakras affect our body, emotions, intellect and overall wellbeing. When energy becomes blocked or stagnant in a chakra we feel imbalanced or unstable in an area of our life.

In this workshop we will explore the attributes of each of these seven energetic wheels from the root to the crown utilising mantra, asana and high intention. For all the Yin lovers, we will explore the profound link between the chakras and the meridians originating from Chinese medicine explored in the Yin yoga practice.

Taking an empowering approach to purifying the chakras, we’ll move through a series of poses sequenced according to the chakra system.

This practice will instigate a change in perception to make way for discovering our true nature. When releasing stagnant energy we are able to address our relationships with our parents, family, partners, everyone around, as well as our teachers and our selves and hone in on possible root causes of our emotional, mental and physical challenges.

“When chakras are blocked through injury, illness, or disconnection from others, we are blocked from being our best selves. Rooted in ancient teachings, chakra yoga is more relevant today than ever. At a time when many people feel disconnected from themselves and others, it can heal your body and free your heart to move into the future with joy.” Sharon Gannon

The word ‘Yin’ translates as passive, dull, slow and restful. We often spend a lot of our time in a ‘Yang’ state, leading fast-paced, demanding and sometimes stressful lives. We become so busy and used to tension and tightness that rarely do we consciously realise our need for relaxing and releasing.

Yin yoga gives us the space to slow down rather than rushing and striving to achieve. This practice is comprised of floor-based postures that are held for several minutes designed to deeply stress and release muscular tissue and energy blockages.

OcuMel workshop at Yoga Hook

Ocular Melanoma Yoga Fundraising Event with Patricia Singh and Issie Lancaster

Yoga is about connection and most of us experience feeling more ‘connected’ after a good session on the mat. But yoga can also help us to expand our sense of connection to a broader sense of community.

Yoga Hook is pleased to be hosting this event to raise awareness and funds for OcuMel UK.

Following Jo’s cancer diagnosis last November, she has become involved with the charity that supports patients and families living with Ocular Melanoma. Alongside her yoga practice, working with the charity has really given her an incredible support.

Not only is she now instrumental in the raising of awareness of Ocular Melanoma, but she is also involved in fundraising for the research into a cure that we desperately need as this rare cancer is as yet incurable.

As Ocular Melanoma starts with an active tumour in the eye, this class will be focused on connection and inner vision. During the first part, Patricia will guide you through fluid, playful and flowing sequences to open the body, clear the mind and enliven the soul. We will be exploring how to reawaken and trust our inner vision in the flow…and then Issie will gracefully invite us to unwind into a blissful and introspective Yin practice, as we delve deeper into the inner space of our subtle body

Donation price of £25.00
